Window glass recycling
Our team visited 5R Solutions Limited’s Auckland facility to see glass recycling in action.
5R process over 100 tonnes of a glass a day from around the North Island, breaking it down into chips or a fine sand and sending it off to be made into glass wool insulation or bottles. They recycle all kinds of glass, including windscreens, DUG’s, some mirrors and all window glass. Their Christchurch facility also consolidates the bottles from council kerbside recycling collections from Ashburton south, coast to coast.
5R have a number of flat glass recovery hubs all over New Zealand. We’ve already sent our first load of old windowpanes to their Wellington hub, diverting about two tonnes of glass away from landfill.
