Timber waste audit BBQ
We had a BBQ to mark the completion of the year-long timber waste audit at our Christchurch Youth Hub site.
Over the past twelve months, we embarked on a detailed journey with Tonkin + Taylor to quantify and analyse the composition of timber waste generated from our Youth Hub site in Christchurch, segregating the timber waste on site, recording the construction stage and estimating the amount and type. We conducted four rigorous physical sorting sessions of 2 x 9m³ skips, separating it into seven categories and weighing it to calibrate the site data, and gathered 70 visual survey data entries.
All this information will help to build a picture of timber waste through the material and project lifecycle in New Zealand, an important step towards improving timber waste management and reducing the amount of timber that ends up in landfill.
The team at the Youth Hub project did a superb job of capturing all the data on-site, and we all had a blast getting sweaty and dirty during the physical sort and weighs!
This comprehensive BRANZ timber study is now complete, marking a significant milestone in our collaborative efforts to drive sustainability in construction. To mark the occasion, the team took a well-deserved break to enjoy a hearty BBQ.
As Tonkin + Taylor compiles the data collected during this research, we’re excited about the insights it will bring to the industry.
