Temporary ward for Wellington Regional Hospital
We’ve been busy constructing a temporary 400sqm/12-bed ward (made up of eight individual pods) for Wellington Regional Hospital.
This ward will ensure the hospital can continue to provide the same number of beds while areas are closed to replace copper pipes through the main hospital building.
We’ve been involved in the design from the beginning, managing the federated BIM model, services coordination, lifting design engineering, scanning and set-outs of the existing structure, and coordinating the timber and steel stud design.
Off-site construction in an empty warehouse has meant far less disruption for Hospital patients and staff, notably to the operating theatres, located on the floor below the intended final location of the ward. Building the ward offsite has allowed our team to work at an accelerated pace in a safer, more efficient manner. It has also enabled us to progress required works that wouldn’t usually be able to be completed on-site due to space restrictions, such as wheeling the pods into a 10m x 10m spray booth to perform intumescent painting.
Things are moving fast, so watch this space. Transportation of the eight pods to Wellington Regional Hospital is set to begin in June!
