Design & Build project delivers essential services and amenities buildings.

Contact Energy engaged our team to design and build a common services building and three ancillary structures to provide control, communications and services for their Te Huka geothermal power stations.

The common services building is an aluminium-clad steel portal frame structure set on a slab-on-grade foundation. It is fully air conditioned with positive pressurisation and H2S removal air purification systems to minimise corrosion, and is split into three zones:

  • An operator control room, network services room and electrical switch room with fire rated internal walls and active fire/gas suppression systems
  • Amenities including meeting rooms, toilets and a lunchroom
  • Workshop and storage with a monorail gantry crane

Three additional buildings were added to the scope once we were on site; an ancillary services building, separator station and battery storage building. The project team carefully incorporated the additional structures into the final delivery plan, as well as working around ongoing construction for the new Te Huka Unit 3 power station.

We used the Cupix reality capture system to keep the widely distributed project control group, suppliers and subcontractors informed and engaged throughout the design & build process, using it to track progress, compliance, quality and accuracy.
