Somervale Care Home & Apartments

Our project at Metlifecare’s Somervale retirement village in Mt Maunganui was a new care home and serviced apartments.

The two-storey, 4,269m2 building contains 16 serviced apartments, 69 ensuite care suites, a full commercial kitchen, six themed lounge/dining areas, a therapy space and a multi-purpose room for functions.

Each of the serviced apartments has either a balcony or patio area, and the care suites surround an internal courtyard with a central pergola. There are two lifts in the building, as well as three sets of stairs.

With the site bordered by an existing retirement village, residential housing, a sports ground and a community facility, public safety was a key focus for our site team. We carefully controlled the site entrances, with 1.8m high fences and monitored security cameras as a backup to ensure that there was no unauthorised access.
