Big box retail store transformed into a youth and community centre.
Our Central Otago team converted a commercial building formerly used as a Mitre 10 store into a youth and community hub in Wānaka, including a gymnastics facility for Aspiring Gymsports, multi-use indoor courts, dance studios, flexible communal spaces, changing rooms, administration areas and a dedicated base for Kahu Youth Trust.
Our scope included minor demolition work, upgrades to the existing structure including a new glazed façade along the east side of the building, services upgrades, new trusses, framing and lining to create rooms within the building, and new floor finishes including sprung timber sports flooring and specialist sports court flooring. We worked closely with client team and project stakeholders to demystify the technical aspects of the build.
We completed the upgrades in a tight timeframe, facilitating staged handovers as the project progressed. Aspiring Gymsports moved in just 90 days after we started on site and the full facility was open to the public in just five months.
