Fast-track, crowd-funded conversion of a furniture factory into a craft chocolate factory.
Our project for craft chocolate makers OCHO involved converting a furniture factory into a chocolate production facility with provision for tour groups.
We renovated three separate buildings in the complex, including a 280m² entrance, a 95m² staff area with a meeting room/tour group area, and a 267m² production space, which includes an octagonal viewing window. The stripped-back fitout preserves the buildings’ industrial feel, with exposed brick and original timber floors, while upgrading the factory area as a modern food production environment.
Our team was involved from the pre-construction phase of the project, developing the design through the demolition phase, designing and installing the new services, and contributing ideas to save the client time and money in a project with ambitious deadlines and a tight crowd-funded budget.
OCHO has established itself as a popular Dunedin tourist attraction, and we’re proud to have been part of maintaining the city’s chocolate making tradition.
