A complex civil and paving project completed in a busy live public environment.
Our Lombard Laneway project was the transformation of a utilitarian thoroughfare leading to an imposing parking building into a busy, inviting city-centre shopping and dining precinct.
Surrounding businesses include two cafés, three shops and offices, plus an apartment building and a multi-storey car park, all of which needed to stay operational and accessible throughout the 14-month project.
Our dedicated site team skilfully completed this complex civil, paving and landscaping project. It involved the removal of existing road surfaces, multiple live services being rerouted and decommissioned, and the installation of new civil services infrastructure, including stormwater and wastewater.
This was achieved while working around existing services directly outside Wellington’s second-largest electricity substation, and with close negotiation with the underground assets’ owners and a Historic Places archaeologist.
While the excavations, services decommissioning and installations were under way, we laid the new substrate for the high-end granite paving system. New street lighting, gardens, lawns and street furniture finish off the attractive, user-friendly space, which runs directly behind our award-winning Victoria Street retail development.
