Connetics Office & Workshop

Orion engaged our Canterbury team to construct a new office, workshop and warehouse for their subsidiary Connetics, situated in Waterloo Business Park, Islington.

Connetics has a critical role in the construction and maintenance of essential infrastructure within the Canterbury region. This purpose-built and disaster-resilient facility will be utilised as both a base for long-term, day-to-day operations running 24/7, and a robust, operational centre in Civil Defence emergencies. Naylor Love’s scope covered extensive siteworks, a 3,300m² steel-framed office and workshop building, and a 2,000m² open-plan warehouse.

A major component of the works on the greenfield site, siteworks included drainage, car parking, landscaping, ancillary buildings, security fencing, large external storage facilities for transformers, poles and cables, a covered fleet parking compound and yard carpark. The facility boasts Canterbury’s largest below-ground stormwater storage arches system.

The steel-framed office and workshop building is separated by an internal precast wall. A comflor slab creates a two-level open plan office featuring glazed partitioned meeting and breakout rooms, lift, café, training and seminar room with specialist AV, amenities and locker rooms. The feature staircase and glass balustrade provides an impressive and welcoming reception area.

The warehouse hosts a central control office space, open place office, café, break out facilities and amenities. The metal-clad steel-framed structure is anchored by a concrete slab with armoured control joints.

Our project team employed a collaborative approach to delivery. This “no surprises” style of management simplified the resolution of key issues throughout the project, including the late delivery of a lift. Naylor Love coordinated labour to carry in furniture via the stairs, ensuring Orion’s move in date was not impacted.

The 58-week build was a complex operation, with a busy siteworks package and multiple workfaces running concurrently. An experienced Naylor Love team delivered a functional and attractive facility of world class quality, on time and to budget.
