Site portacom donation
An article on Stuff about Te Kai Po Ahuriri’s community building initiative in the Manawatu had us wondering how we could help.
The community for formerly homeless people is on 11 hectares of leased farm land in Linton and is largely built from recycled building materials. They were renting a portacom to use as a communal kitchen, dining room and living room and sometimes even an overflow sleeping space for $600 a month, so we offered to donate one of our site portacoms.
We ensured that electrical and plumbing inspections were completed, then organised transport for the portacom from our Wellington yard to its new home. It is being used to shift the kitchen and dining room functions away from the rented unit – the dining table and chairs now don’t have to spend the night outside when floor space is needed for sleeping!
