Plasback trial
Naylor Love is one of the first construction companies in New Zealand to partner with agricultural plastic recycler Plasback.
Since its inception in 2007, Plasback have been collecting plastic waste from the agricultural industry in New Zealand and have diverted more the 20,000 tonnes of waste from landfill. Roughly 80% is sent to Asia, where it is recycled and made into recycled rubbish bags, damp proof membrane, groundsheets and drop sheets. The other 20% stays in the country and is given a new life as Tuffboard or Tuffdeck and then sold back to farmers for use on their farms, creating a circular economy here in New Zealand.
We’re keen to see what we can achieve in the construction industry. We are running Plasback collection trials on some of our sites in Christchurch, Wellington, and shortly the West Coast. Materials collected from our sites may well end up back on our sites, with the recycled damp proof membrane available at Placemakers and Mitre 10.
Watch this space to see how the trials go. We hope to make this service available to our sites nationwide soon!
