Papatoetoe tornado repairs
Our Auckland team swung into action to help out a Papatoetoe family whose home had been damaged in a tornado.
A tornado ripped through Papatoetoe in mid-June, destroying 18 houses and damaging hundreds more. We had a team of carpenters and other tradies on site nearby at Manurewa High School, so we checked with the school community to check if anyone needed any help. They were all OK, so we spent just over a week cleaning up in the area and undertaking repairs on buildings and Sunita Whavel’s house.
Sunita had just finished renovations on her property but was yet to sort out insurance. The tornado ripped up large portions of her roof, shattered her fencing and tore through the pergola, leaving her and her son feeling unsafe. We reached out to Sunita after seeing her plight on the TV news, first fixing up her fence then getting some scaffolding in and sorting out the roof.
“It’s a big relief,” said Sunita, “Today I’m really feeling so good and much lighter because this is happening.”
