New life on site
One of our Wellington teams had an unexpected visitor right at the start of spring – a nest right in the middle of their site, complete with three eggs and a very protective mama bird.
The team were keen to help out, so they put barriers in place, established an exclusion zone, and briefed the entire site at the next daily meeting.
Two of the eggs (known as Tenders and Nuggets) were lost to predators over the next couple of weeks, and they feared for the single remaining egg. They were thrilled when a small ball of feathers, known to the team as Nibbles, popped out one morning. The new family was carefully guided off site to a safer environment.
The entire site team, including our contractors, played a part in fostering this tiny creature, identified as a spur-winged plover. It’s a timely reminder of just how nice people can be!
