MATES in Construction, Wellington
Following the “fly the flag” awareness week and when Covid alert levels allowed, MATES in Construction visited our Wellington sites to present their general awareness training.
This was the first time Mates’ field officers had brought this important message and initiative down to this region. MATES Field Officers Slade McFarland and Berhampore Peleti did a great job of reaching some big teams, who were very complimentary afterwards. The local pizza suppliers must have had a decent week as well, looking at the stacks of boxes that the sites provided!
The size of the workforce on our Bupa Crofton Downs project meant that we ran the training over two sessions, with well over a hundred attending on that site alone. There are now around 250 people in Wellington who have heard this important message and know there is help available should they need it or know of someone else who might.
Over forty attendees indicated that they were interested in further training to become “Connectors” and we were able to run a session during the week for the first dozen connectors in Wellington.
