Life cycle assessments
We’ll be sending energy and water usage statistics from one of our major Auckland projects to Aurecon to help them to develop more accurate benchmarks for the construction and installation process of the building life cycle.
Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) measure the environmental impacts associated with all the stages of product or service, from raw material production to end of life. They help to assess the potential impact of construction and design decisions, such as switching from one material to another. But the figures used to calculate one part of the life cycle for construction projects, how much energy and water is used on building sites in New Zealand, are based on generic, averaged data.
We’ve estimated the diesel, electricity and water usage on one of our major upcoming Auckland projects, and we’ll be monitoring the actual usage and sending the stats to Aurecon as we complete the work. It’s primary data that hasn’t been available to them before and will help them to develop more accurate benchmarks for the construction and installation process (module A5) of the building life cycle.
