Kate Valley Landfill trip
Some of our Canterbury team visited Kate Valley Landfill to find out what happens to waste that can’t be recycled.
Kate Valley is Canterbury’s highly engineered landfill, established in partnership between local councils and Waste Management. Their Environmental Engineer gave a presentation on how it was constructed, how it operates, and what will happen once it’s at capacity.
We then visited a separate facility in Christchurch where waste materials are sorted and sent for reuse or recycling both in New Zealand and offshore.
We’re fully committed to reducing the waste we send to landfill, but it’s great to see that the increasingly small proportion of waste that we can’t reuse or recycle is in good hands.
