He Toki Māori and Pacifica trades programme
We took a group of carpentry pre-trade students through a couple of our projects as part of a new initiative we have been working on with Ara Institute of Canterbury and He Toki.
He Toki brings together iwi, industry, community and government by supporting Māori and Pacifica trainees to undertake qualifications, providing additional layers of support to prepare students to transition into the workforce.
As well as giving the wider group a chance to see the inner workings of a real-world commercial construction site, we’ll be working closely with three especially promising rangatahi nominated by He Toki with a view to potentially bringing them on to the team once they’ve finished their course.
