Going beyond recycling: Habitat for Humanity
Our Waikato/BoP team are going beyond recycling at a major hotel refurbishment project, donating some of the old fixtures and fittings to Habitat for Humanity.
Our site team did a fantastic job of carefully recovering light switches, power points, light shades and LED bulbs from the ibis Hamilton Tainui – literally hundreds of items. We also had more 200 floor tiles from another refurbishment project that were fit for reuse.
We needed to find a new home for everything we had reclaimed, which has led to us building a relationship our local branch of Habitat for Humanity. We delivered a load direct to their warehouse, which gave us a great opportunity to meet the team and learn about how everything will be used on housing upgrade projects.
It takes a little extra effort, but there are so many up-sides – we’re reducing the waste that goes to landfill, supporting a local charity, and it’s very satisfying to give something a second life. We also made our Plant Manager happy by freeing up some space in his warehouse!
