Futures, Employment Pathway
Introducing our inaugural Futures, Employment Pathway students!
Naylor Love, Ara Education Charitable Trust, Sime Group, The Labour Exchange, the Ministry of Social Development and Auckland Council have partnered to trial an initiative to support five Ara Education students into construction apprenticeships.
Ara Education provides an incredible alternative study pathway for South Auckland students, giving them the opportunity to complete a hands-on, skills-based curriculum centred around building or renovating a house. The next step for Ara Education students is ideally to secure a trade apprenticeship, but it can be a tough transition from school to full time work.
Our partner organisations are collaborating to provide funding, labouring opportunities, resource sorter training, mentoring and pastoral care, with the goal that all five students secure an apprenticeship in their chosen field of carpentry or plumbing by the end of the programme. We’ve had an early success, with the first of the five students already securing a plumbing apprenticeship!
The ultimate goal of this pilot is to build a comprehensive, sustainable pathway to employment for more Ara Education graduates – watch this space!
