Chipping in at Wesley Primary School
We’re helping pupils at Wesley Primary School in Auckland to build their own planting tables and trolleys for the school’s Garden to Table project.
The Garden to Table project encourages the pupils to grow their own produce and learn to cook, changing the way children approach and think about food. The aim is to see children enthusiastically getting their hands dirty and learning how to grow, harvest, prepare and share fresh, seasonal food.
Our Auckland team have volunteered time and materials to build prototype planters, planting tables and trellis from recycled pallets the school have collected. This term, Site Manager Liam Doolin is helping the older pupils to build their own planting tables and trolleys, providing guidance over the course of their projects.
The highlight of Liam’s latest visit was the pupils questioning the structural stability of the prototype planter bench he had built and noting that he should have sanded it before presenting it to them!
We will be regularly assisting the pupils over the next few months while we work to complete Blocks A & B at the school later this year.
A huge thankyou to our staff, students and Naylor Love for partnering together, to further the Hauora-wellbeing and Marau-local curriculum being delivered at our kura.
