A purpose-built airport facility adding more space for a growing team.
Wellington International Airport has been steadily getting busier over the years, meaning that more staff call the airport their place of work and more space is needed to accommodate them. WIAL contracted Naylor Love to build and fit out a new Air New Zealand engineers’ office, cabin crew breakout areas, ramp crew office, and associated amenities.
We made room for these additional areas by increasing the building footprint on Level 0 of the South West Pier, redeveloping an old Air New Zealand ramp and engineering area.
We completed most the work in an airside, enhanced security zone, including areas controlled by the Aviation Security Service, the New Zealand Customs Service and other border security agencies. These areas all remained operational throughout the project, so we needed to access the site through live, security-controlled areas of the airport. We kept everybody on side by maintaining clear communication with the many stakeholders, holding regular coordination meetings.
The end result is a purpose-built facility that the users are very happy with.
