Naenae College Music Block

Naenae College’s new music block, also known as Te Hā Pūoro, is a 400m² building constructed from steel portals and timber framing. It contains two classrooms, a recording studio, practice rooms and storage areas. A veranda links the new building to an existing school building, with a new deck and stainless-steel handrails. We also re-clad the existing building along the length of the veranda.

Acoustic STC ratings were important with the design for the internal works to keep the noise in. The internal framing is Whisperwall steel stud lined with a double layer of GIB Noiseline, which was then overlaid with Autex Composition acoustic wall fabric in the classrooms and studios and Decortech ply panelling in the hallway. Potter suites were used for the internal joinery, with some of the internal windows double glazed for acoustics.

The exterior cladding is rusticated weatherboard on the two ends of the building, with ColorCote ZinaCore clip-fix metal cladding along the sides. Double glazed aluminium joinery in matte black made up the exterior joinery.

We also completed some other work at Naenae College, including a re-roof of the school’s cafeteria, new storage areas and a dressing room in the drama block, strengthening the school hall and renovating an accessible toilet.
