LVL construction at Rangiora High
The new ILE (innovative learning environment) building at Rangiora High School in Canterbury is taking shape.
We’re always looking for ways to do things better, so we’re prefabricating the roof frames for this 100 metre long, 30 metre wide, 15 bay LVL portal frame structure in bays on a scaffold jig. The 7 metre wide, 10 tonne bays are then moved onto site and lifted into place using a 50 tonne crawler crane.
This method saves time and also is also safer, reducing work at height. The Safety Advisor and Project Manager from the Ministry of Education were on to witness the first lift, which went very smoothly due to a huge amount of planning and preparation, and plenty of experience gained on other LVL projects such as the Ravensdown Head Office and Albany Pool.
