Oranga Tamariki Whakaruruhau group home

We built a new Whakaruruhau specialist group home for children with complex needs for Oranga Tamariki in Dunedin. The main whare includes four ensuite bedrooms and a fifth bedroom equipped with a kitchenette, with communal spaces including a kitchen, entryway, spacious living area with a dedicated study nook, a rumpus room and a laundry.

There is also a versatile guest house adjacent to the main whare, offering a separate office/consulting space, garage, kitchenette, living room, bunk room and bathroom.

The construction boasts high-quality elements, including double and triple-lined walls, discreet security measures and strategically positioned drainage and fixings in the bathrooms.

The development is set in landscaped grounds, including a half basketball court, seven-bay carpark, retaining wall, decks, native planting and raised vegetable garden.

We encountered a few challenges during construction, such as managing the drainage, hydroseeding in boggy areas, and an unexpected snow loading, but efficiently addressed any issues through seamless collaboration between our site team and the client, consultants and subcontractors.
