Construction waste reduction initiative
We’ve been collaborating with Nigel from Benton Ltd on keeping construction waste out of landfill on a residential building site.
Auckland Council senior waste planning advisor Mark Roberts set residential builder Nigel Benton from Benton Ltd an ambitious target of diverting 90% of the waste by weight from landfill on his site in Titirangi, where he’s building townhouses. With some help and encouragement from Naylor Love, Auckland Council and Junk Run, Nigel is on his way to meeting the target.
His efforts are being monitored in a joint study programme by Terri-Ann Berry & Joanne Low from Unitec’s Environmental Solutions Research Centre and Ferdinand Oswald & Kim Yeon from the University of Auckland.
We met up on site recently to check on progress and review the waste segregation system. It was also great to see James Griffin from the Sustainable Business Network, who are busy creating the first business-to-business Circular Economy Directory for Aotearoa New Zealand.
We’re happy to keep sharing our knowledge on waste management in an effort to divert all construction waste from landfill.
