5 Kent Terrace
We’re well under way at 5 Kent Terrace, a nine-storey apartment reclad project in central Wellington.
We’ve been on site since late February and the work is scheduled to be finished in May next year, and most of the 40 apartments will be fully occupied throughout. We’re well aware that living on a construction site can be trying, but we’re endeavouring to get the job done as soon as we can and to be good neighbours while we’re there.
To that end, we’ve encapsulated the exterior in clear building wrap, allowing more light into the apartments than the more common white wrap. Acrow will take the plastic wrap, used to protect the building from the weather while we work, to be recycled and re-used once we’re done.
On the inside, we’ve used temporary solid hoardings to isolate the workface in each apartment. The hoardings all have a clear panel at the top, again to let as much light in as possible. We’ve fitted an opening window into each panel for ventilation, reusing the old glazing units that we’re replacing as part of the project in a move that is both sustainable and more cost-effective than temporary mechanical ventilation.
Our site team is proactive about communicating with the occupants, owners and the Body Corporate to make sure that everybody knows what is happening, especially giving them as much notice as possible when we need access to the apartments. They’ve also been on hand to answer any questions, and have been widely complimented for their excellent communication, courtesy and professionalism.
5 Kent Terrace will look as good as new when we’re done, with new cladding and windows and the balconies enclosed to provide more year-round living space. While the occupants probably won’t miss us, we’re on track to ensure that they have some fond memories of Naylor Love!
